I fell in love with Ruben’s music within moments.  After we married, our home was filled with the sounds of flutes, whistles, recorders and guitar.  It was also filled with hundreds of shrink-wrapped audiocassettes (Arati, Puja, Ganeshpuri and Songs of the Mother) that Ruben had recorded and released years earlier.

A few years ago I gave Ruben’s tapes to a friend as a gift.  Another guest at the party, a yoga teacher, told us, “I love those tapes. I play his music in my classes all the time.” No one knew that the musician, Sundardas, was my husband, Ruben.  Two weeks later, a friend called me excitedly from California saying that the spa where she was staying was selling Ruben’s tapes.

I became intrigued by the fact that Ruben’s music was still alive out in the world even though his tapes had been released 15 years earlier.  With great curiosity, I invited my husband to sit with me at our dining table.  "Ruben," I asked, "why haven't you recorded any of your recent music?"  Ruben leaned back in his chair, contemplating my question. Then, leaning forward, he looked me in the eyes.  “Packaging," he said. “Packaging?" I asked perplexed.  “Yes,” he replied, "I don't like doing the packaging."

"Ruben," I said, "if you record, I'll package."

Dharmic Music was born from that commitment.
